Feeling Better?

Have you ever had a bad day and wished you could feel better?  I know I have.  Want to know what I do to help me feel better?  I do just what "Pete" did in this story.  If you try it, it'll help you feel better too.

Here's what the kids want you to know:

"I like the story where Jesus stopped the storm and waves so his boat would not sink."

"Jesus walked on water.  Jesus friends were scared.  Jesus said 'Don't be scared.' Jesus friend said 'Let me walk on water, too.'  Jesus reached out his hand and said 'Come.'  His friend Pete walked on water with him.  He took his eyes off Jesus and began to sink so Jesus caught him and saved him."

"Peter fell into the ocean and Jesus walked on the ocean water and saved Peter and dragged Peter out of the ocean and Peter felt a lot better."

Here's what the Bible says:
Immediately after this, Jesus made his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake while he sent the people home.  Afterward he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.

Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. About three o'clock in the morning Jesus came to them, walking on the water.

When the disciples saw him, they screamed in terror, thinking he was a ghost.  But Jesus spoke to them at once. "It's all right," he said. "I am here! Don't be afraid."

Then Peter called to him, "Lord, if it's really you, tell me to come to you by walking on water."

"All right, come," Jesus said.

So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he looked around at the high waves, he was terrified and began to sink. "Save me, Lord!" he shouted.

Instantly Jesus reached out his hand and grabbed him. "You don't have much faith," Jesus said. "Why did you doubt me?"

And when they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. Then the disciples worshiped him. "You really are the Son of God!" they exclaimed.  (Matthew 14:22-33)

A few thoughts from me:

I'll bet Peter felt a lot better after that!!  It's terrible when you're sinking and don't know what to do.  Peter had it right.  He called out "Save me, Lord!"

Did you know you can call out to Jesus anytime, too?  He's still alive and up in heaven sitting at the right hand of God.  And do you know what He's doing there?  He's praying for each one of us - YOU TOO!

The Bible says, "Who then will condemn us? Will Christ Jesus? No, for he is the one who died for us and was raised to life for us and is sitting at the place of highest honor next to God, pleading for us." (Romans 8:34, NLT).

When I find myself in a situation I can't get out of, I call out to God.  He wants us to call on Him.  Elijah called on God when he needed His help and God sent fire down from heaven to show everyone He was real! (1 Kings 8:24)

The prophet Joel said that "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Joel 2:32, NIV), and the apostle Paul repeated these same words when he said, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Romans 10:13, NIV).

I know a woman who was in a terrible situation.  She didn't know much about Jesus at all.  In fact, she was a Bhuddist.  But Bhudda was dead and couldn't help her at all.  One day she called out to Jesus:  "Jesus, get me out of here!"  And he did.  God gave her a whole new life.

I want you to remember that if you ever find yourself in a bad situation, call out to God like Peter did:  "Lord, save me!!"

Don't look at the waves and the wind.  Look at Jesus.  Call out to Him.  And Jesus will reach down, and even if He doesn't take you out of the bad situation that instant, He can still give you peace in your heart while you're there.

And like Peter, I hope you'll feel better, too!

P.S. You know what else I think is cool about this story?  Jesus walked on water!  And not only Jesus, but Peter did too, when he put his faith in Jesus.  But when Peter took his eyes off Jesus, he sank.  By putting our faith in Jesus we can do some incredible things.

In fact, Jesus himself said, "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father"
(John 14:12, NIV).

Can you imagine doing greater things than Jesus!?!  But that's what Jesus said.  So get your faith in gear and keep your eyes on Jesus!!
